Ubuntu 11.10: discovery of serious vulnerability

A vulnerability has been found recently in the Linux kernel that afflict all versions of Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) to which you absolutely must put a remedy through an update.

Vasiliy Kulikov discovered the vulnerability CVE-2011-2494 which allows local users to read various system information generating a loss of privacy due to taskstats that does not handle, in the right way, the restrictions on access.

The security flaw can be placed on updating Kernel of Ubuntu 11.10 through the package linux-image-3.0.0-13 (3.0.0-13.22).

Please note that after kernel updates you need to recompile the kernel modules from third-party software and also need to update the package linux-restricted-modules if this were installed on the system.
