GIMP Painter And GIMP Paint Studio shake Photoshop!

With the theme of deskmodding, I began to pique curiosity about the potential of Gimp, so many unknowns. Soak Up a tool that, without exaggerating, makes Gimp look like another.

I speak of Gimp Painter and Gimp Paint Studio, two required patches for your gimp. It's amazing the amount of improvements that include the official version. For example, the classic brush adds more than a dozen more features. In addition to the amount of brush that INCLUDES. I recommend it strongly.

GIMP Paint Studio

To install GIMP Paint Studio in Ubuntu add the PPA  ( first install GIMP), with the following commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shnatsel/gimp-paint-studio
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gimp-paint-studio
GIMP Painter

the installation is very easy (for users GIMP from official Ubuntu repositories (Lucid or Maverick, Karmic) ), only copy/paste following commands in terminal :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mizuno-as/gimp-painter
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

For example, WiFi connectivity is improved and also support WiFi chipsets, but there are a number of improvements wing pair stability and performance.

Apparently there is another important feature: the backend called MediaCurl supporting zsync that is added to libzypp and that makes such a user listed in the official announcement declared that the installation of software is like a flash.

There are also some improvements in LibreOffice (but still problems in some areas, such as loss of data in tables in certain scenarios), and KDE SC 4.6 works perfectly especially in the version for 64-bit platforms.

Now you can Download openSUSE 11.4 RC2 ,And also see the details in that official announcement ,Or consult the more annoying bugs in the list published on the subject.

10 good reasons to upgrade to openSUSE 11.4

One of the contributors to the official blog has written a good list of reasons why anyone should consider upgrading to openSUSE 11.4, a distribution that is a speck of candy since it theoretically on next 10 March, in just 13 days, we will have with us.

the Decalogue will leave everything more clearly. Why upgrade to openSUSE 11.4?

10. Design: OpenSUSE 11.4 is released with new artwork called "Stripes", which promotes such contrast in the terminal and includes images visually very attractive home.

9. Wine: In this edition of openSUSE will have Wine 1.3.10, which is a very mature and stable version of this essential component for those who use Windows games and applications.

8. Pool Management: According to the author, work by adding and removing software sources is now much more comfortable thanks to the work that has been done with the package manager.

7. Install works right: The concept "out of the box" which refers to how well that works right distro be installed is one of the more polished, especially on issues such as hardware support by default, including graphics cards.

6. Native software patterns: As in previous editions, the selections or sets of packets, in openSUSE, "patterns" - provide access to sets of tasks in areas such as development and multimedia creation.

5. Security and stability: One of the tricks which the author says are key in openSUSE for many versions.

4. YaST installer: The process by which we met this old guide when installing the distribution is easy to follow even by novice users.

3. Featured upstream projects: The most popular projects among the Linux community are accessible. Things like GNOME, KDE, LXDE or even IceWM are included, and so do applications like Banshee or VLC. It's hard not to find a popular package is not available in the repos.

: In addition to this approach in KDE 4.6, the distribution will also pay special attention to this desktop environment. Although those who choose to opt for default GNOME 2.x, you also have the ability to test GNOME 3 and GNOME Shell in the distribution.

1. Community: OpenSUSE users, as those of other Linux community, always willing to help refine and improve any part of the distribution.

As the author of the original article the reasons are subjective It is user-confessed collaborator openSUSE project, and although they are somewhat general reasons, you should always be taken into account.

Synapse 0.2.4 Anandamide available for installation

Just released the stable version of Synapse 0.2.4 ,Probably the best pitcher of applications that exist for Linux at this time. Although I'm sure many of you will disagree with me, as Gnome-Do is also an excellent pitcher.

But I believe that Synapse is better?

Just because you do not use Mono, but Vala a programming language, and I still am of those who prefer to keep your equipment free of Mono. Additionally used Zeitgeist for semantic search in our team, getting results much more accurate and better every day the more we use our system.

Synapse also features a number of plugins that allow us to do much more than launch applications, such as finding files and directories, execute commands on the terminal, open Web addresses directly from the pitcher, add songs to the play queue and much more.

Among the changes included in this new version of Synapse are the following:
  • A new plugin for the calculator
  • multiple arrays to search for Zeitgeist
  • descriptions of the plugins (Link to wiki)
  • a new simple plugin Launchpad
  • a new plugin Pastebin
  • new action to copy to clipboard
  • a new plugin Imgur (Upload images to Imgur)
  • Select a new plugin (Execute actions on the currently selected text)
  • small fixes to the UI and speed improvements
  • multiple smaller arrays
to install Synapse in Ubuntu We have available a PPA repository that we can add by typing in a terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:synapse-core/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade #Required by Lucid only
sudo apt-get install synapse
Then find the application in Applications-> Accessories and use the key shortcut ctrl+space bar to launch. It is recommended for a better user experience have installed Zeitgeist.

If you prefer to have the latest in the development of Synapse, you must run the following commands in the terminal (note that this is the unstable version of Synapse and can give you many problems):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:synapse-core/testing
sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install synapse
If you like Synapse, recalls working with the wiki Synapse by clicking on the icon "About this plugin" you will find in the accessories tab next to all plugins.

Firefox 4 mobile beta 5 for Android and Maemo, available for testing

While we all hope Firefox 4 desktop ,There are also people who are expecting the final version of Firefox for mobile devices, To remember it works on Maemo/Meego (Nokia N900) and Android devices with the 2.1 or higher (Most of the current market.)

Today has released a new beta 5, that is focused on stability and speed. Thus, it has not changed anything from the interface, but it has improved start speed ,of zoom of pages (in some cases faster than the browser that comes default on Android), and the movement (Panning) on the page.

In addition, the application can move to native SD card in Android 2.2, but more interesting is that it also moves its own application data (profile), which almost any program does, being in a ridiculous 300KiB used in internal memory.

You can see the Release Notes on the page and you can find in Android market (From which you can easily install it on your device) or Mozilla specific page ,For N900 users.

Try it ,tell us your experiences and Web experience on your mobile device as you've never done.

OpenShot 1.3.0 Available

After five months of development and is ready the new version of OpenShot, one of the promises as to the non-linear video editing in Linux refers. And as I overtook a few weeks ago, the thing promised.

The news of OpenShot 1.3.0 has been bringing its upstream along several articles on the project blog, From which we can elucidate the three pillars that underpin this new version: stability, accessibility -or usability- And new features. It seems obvious, but there are very special mention in these three fields.

For example, stability has been strengthened particularly in regard to all MLT, the multimedia framework that works on OpenShot, A key, also includes a new feature autosave ,So that a failure does not spoil us the latest developments.

In terms of accessibility, OpenShot 1.3.0 saw a new more polished visual theme that makes use of icons that have set as default, earning system integration. The export dialog has been simplified and is working to follow strictly the guidelines of user interface that makes the GNOME project, Looking for uniformity in all applications.

Completing the triangle are the new features offered OpenShot 1.3.0:

  • Ability to add multiple video clips to the timeline in one step
  • New 3D animations (snow, glare of the object, particle effects, animated globes)
  • File filtering, transitions and effects
  • Improved video rotation
  • Automatic detection of a sequence of images
  • Smoother scaling (pan, zoom and rotate)
  • Sharing videos on YouTube or Vimeo
You have all the details in the official announcement of Release ,And several demonstration videos almost an explanatory article on each new feature.

To do with OpenShot 1.3.0 only have to go through the download page ,Where you will find available a Live DVD, PPA repository -useful Karmic Koala onwards- and precompiled packages for Ubuntu and Fedora (And source code, of course)

Well, better than PiTiVi or not?

Images of the possible interface of Firefox 5

A very short time after it launched the final version of Firefox 4, have leaked some screenshots of how it will be version 5, which seems not take long to see, as Mozilla recently announced their intention to release final versions each six months approx.

One of the more novel features of this new version is the arrival of applications originally planned for version 6, which is the integration project Mozilla Prism. Thus, we can deliver web sites from the desktop, through the usual shortcuts that will open a special window of the browser.

For example in the following image we can see how the application would Twitter with your button you can access the various parts of this popular web service.

Another change will focus on the search box, which will have a larger, reaching up 240 pixels wide and will have some change on an aesthetic level. The icons of search engines give way to the name in text and Background color distinctive, as we see in the picture below

As you can see Yahoo! is highlighted in purple and Bing yellow.

Will also be changes in the update section browser that affect both browser as updates to the extensions. Their idea is to significantly reduce the steps and there will be a window as shown in the picture below.

Firefox Sync, Will increase its presence, especially in the home page and dialogs to remember passwords or add Bookmarks. At the moment these are just sketches, but it gives us an idea of what's to come in coming months.

Extension to block domains on the results of Google [Chrome]

Google announced today new extension that allows us block domains in results search. Thus we can further customize our results by eliminating sites we are not interested.

The operation is very simple, once installed, and every time I do a search, we will leave an item labeled "Block".

This allows us to block a certain domain results putting together a sort of blacklist for future searches that Google does not show us the results of this domain.

Microsoft says goodbye to Autorun

If there is something we "resolved life" of Windows is famous Autorun ,Because it saved us a lot of time when installing an application, but this became a double-edged sword in terms of security, as it was a kind of door open for any virus or alimania we install in the team.

The combination of someone with malicious intent, the file autorun.inf, And a bit off guard uruario could cause disaster if our antivirus not detected. With this in mind, Microsoft put at disposal a new update through Windows Update disable the Autorun feature.

This option even in Windows 7, but what I will say is alarming: In Windows XP there are 10 times more likely to become infected than in Windows 7.

Tip: Open any folder from your GNOME desktop

A simple and practical tip to quickly open a folder on the desktop while GNOME.

There should be no open window, or at least those that are open should be minimized to work.

If tipeamos / + enter we will see a window like you see in the image to open the folder you want, eg. could write usr/share/themes and then we will enter the location.

On the other hand, if we wish to open our home folder, the shortcut is Ctrl+l.

Apple and Google could be the biggest beneficiaries of the alliance between Microsoft and Nokia

The news stunned the world: Nokia decided alliance with Microsoft for the future of mobile, adopting Windows Phone 7 while continuing to MeeGo and Symbian. It is too early to see the consequences, but analysts have already launched their opinions. Mike Abramsky, of RBC Capital Markets, believes that the companies that will draw out of this will be Google and Apple.

Windows Phone 7 will have a presence in more devices with this union, yes, but this also means that competition from large mobile operating systems become "a three-horse race between ,With Windows Phone 7 win against a much stronger iOS and Android, Bearing in mind that the CEO of Nokia released a statement to employees admitting that competition from Apple has drastically changed the market to "redefine the concept of telephone", combined with Microsoft can be a solution.

Of joining Google, Android would have taken a lot more strength and then Apple would be the benefit to a prejudiced by seeing a surge of devices with the system of its competitor (there would be another alternative, together with Apple, but we all know what Apple thinks about including the IOS outside devices.) But Microsoft has ended up being chosen, moving the balance towards three main rivals in the mobile market.

Nokia adopt Windows Phone 7 in their smartphones (Updated: MeeGo and Symbian remain standing)

Officially confirmed what was already an open secret: the Finnish company Nokia will start using Windows Phone 7 as operating system for most of its smartphones. The confirmation comes through a press release from Microsoft itself.

Broadly speaking, the agreement speaks to what we already know that manufacture smartphones for Nokia with Windows Phone 7 to ship globally. But more than that. Apparently you want to achieve a complete synergy in the mobile (not going to be) also integrating ancillary services to smartphones itself.

An example of this is that Microsoft joined Nokia Maps within its mapping service. We know that despite Bing Maps offers a good service in the U.S. and other countries leaves much to be desired in other markets. So it makes sense that Microsoft decides to take advantage of the overall service offered by Nokia in this regard. And it is worth highlighting that this integration will not only maps in Windows Phone, but will affect Bing Maps in general.

On the other hand, Nokia will use Bing as default browser in all its services and products, Not just smartphones but also online services and "feature phones." In addition, Microsoft will use Nokia contracts with operators to facilitate payments in the Marketplace with charges to the phone bill.

Finally, Nokia says it will integrate the content of the store OVI in the Marketplace Microsoft. This is a bit confusing, as all these apps are designed for Symbian, so it would have little future in this new scenario. Unlike the case of the music store OVI ,Whose contents could easily be added to the Zune Marketplace.

But beyond these details, there is little doubt that we are facing a story that marked a before and after in this "war of smartphones" ,Will have to wait to see how things evolve.

Updated: Nokia does not mention plans to kill any of the operating systems that currently work. MeeGo will be an experimental platform in which will continue to work now and in the long run, while Symbian will leave as a franchise, while still providing support to users of this system.

Apple iPad vs HP TouchPad vs Motorola Xoom vs BlackBerry PlayBook (comparative table)

The presentation yesterday the new HP TouchPad introduces a new competitor (and not insignificant because HP is the number one in sales of computers around the world) in the market for tablets. me took the opportunity to publish a comparative table of the four tablets that attracted the most attention at this time: Apple iPad, HP TouchPad, Motorola Xoom and BlackBerry Playbook.

It is worth you dig out the different characteristics of each. Of course, do not ye lay low to Windows operating system? Times are changing and it shows that of the four platforms (webOS, iOS, Android and BB Tablet OS) Neither is Microsoft.

New details about the Features of future iPad 2 and iPhone 5

The Developers Apple already have in their possession Beta of IOS 4.3 and through it we have new information to what we can expect in the following versions of iPad and the iPhone, we talked about iPad 2 or second generation and iPhone 5 or fifth generation.

Then collect two lists some characteristics of future iPad 2 and iPhone 5. Eye, we note that nothing is confirmed, they are just speculations.

iPad 2, features:
  • Integrate two cameras, one for photos and high quality video and one for video calls Facetime.
  • slot Integrated SD.
  • Dual-chip GSM/CDMA manufactured by Qualcomm.
  • High resolution screen (twice the current): 2.048 x 1.536 pixels.
iPhone 5, features:
  • New CPU Apple A5 integrated chip dual GSM/CDMA.

iPhone 5, what can we expect from the next generation of the iPhone

The new generation iPhone, which all hope will call iPhone 5 ,Has many papers to be presented to the next WWDC 2011 (The developer conference that all states will be held between 5 and 9 June). Although Apple currently is engaged in keeping up production of its iPhone 4 GSM and the recently released iPhone 4 CDMA, Working in parallel so that the iPhone 5 is about in June. With this in mind, a good time to speculate on what we see on the iPhone 5.
  • Despite complaints to the location of the antenna, the design of the iPhone 4 has proven to be quite solid and has been well received. There remains the problem of launching a iPhone 4 white, but with a little retouching to the failure of the antenna does not happen again, everything indicates that the design be the same.
  • Retinal Display is one of the star components iPhone 4 and continue to enjoy the iPhone 5.
  • There will be new processor A5.
  • New module dual GSM/CDMA of Qualcomm.
  • New Hardware Near Field Communications (NFC), a technology for short-range communication and high frequency allows the exchange of data between devices less than 10 centimeters. Very useful to use the iPhone 5 payments almost like a credit card, and to get tag information RFID.
The new processor A5 will likely include two kernels ARM Cortex A9 operating at 1 GHz or more. It will also include control of the graphics chipset PowerVR SGX of Imagination Technologies, with 40% higher performance than the current graphics chipset of micro A4 of the iPhone 4.

What is not clear is the use of a SIM module integrated into the phone, because Mobile phone operators have not seen with good eyes.

Ubuntu 11.04 will not Release Candidate

The development team at Canonical announced that changed their plans and the release roadmap Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal.

The distribution will not a pre-Release Candidate version to launching the final version, and instead there will be a Beta 2 for this distribution before its release.

According to the announcement, the developers have decided to launch the RC just before the Easter holidays would throw a little late, and after discussing the matter with those responsible for the distribution that will do is eliminate the RC and replace it with Beta 2 to launch on 14 April, Not the 21 April date that was supposed to appear the RC.

The new roadmap with versions that are to come is therefore as follows:
  • 3 March, 2011: Ubuntu 11.04 Alpha 3
  • 31 March, 2011: Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 1
  • 14 April, 2011: Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2
  • 28 April, 2011: Ubuntu 11.04 Final

Rumor of the day: Apple is projecting Poor iPhone Edition

Be honest, which is the main reason that prevents you from buying a iPhone 4? I have no doubt that many will say that the price of Apple's smartphone is a way to scare away potential buyers. Steve Jobs also that the device is relatively expensive, and seems to want to change that.

According to the agency Bloomberg ,Specializing in financial news and market, Apple is working on a smaller version of the current iPhone. This device would be ideal for those who do not want to spend much with the iPhone conventional, which costs about 200 $ complete with a two-year contract.

Poor iPhone Edition - Pet name that we decided to give the product - would be about 30% smaller than the iPhone 4, and also lighter. The exercise price would remain at around 200 $ , but without relying on a two-year contract (or any contract, according to Bloomberg). Something tells me that operators will not like that story ...

To complete this smartphone can work in both GSM and CDMA networks.

Firefox at full speed: Firefox 4, 5, 6 and 7 release in 2011!

Despite what has happened so far, the development of future versions of the Mozilla browser will change dramatically strategy, and in 2011 not only see Firefox 4, but also Firefox 5, Firefox 6 and Firefox 7.

The documentation of Mozilla and Firefox in wiki format so confirms, somewhat surprising considering that since it appeared Firefox 3.0 has been more than 2 ½ years. The idea is to present less ambitious versions and faster.

Mozilla documentation has hinted that change of attitude that will make it against what we've seen so far, are released final versions of the browser with a big jump in version number in the remainder of 2011.

In fact in a few weeks we will finally Firefox 4, but Mozilla and is preparing to launch Firefox 5, Firefox 6 and Firefox 7, Which will also in 2011 and will, of course, with a set of differential changes much smaller than that affecting the jump that has given Firefox 3 to Firefox 4.

As explained in this documentation ,In Firefox 5 will have a account manager and a series of developments in the field of "social navigation", something that Mozilla started to investigate the F1 extension of Mozilla Labs. Moreover, it seems to be a specific version of Firefox 5 for Windows 7 64 bit.

In Firefox 6 ,Mozilla makers will focus on the final implementation of the framework for web applications (chromeless project, Formerly known as Prism) plus the JavaScript engine optimization and support for Mac OS X 10.7.

As Firefox 7 ,The list of features this less clear, but could apply the technology dubbed as Electrolysis ,to apply in Firefox as Google Chrome has been doing for time: separate navigation tabs as separate processes.

Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal Alpha 2 is available

The new prerelease version of Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal has been announced by its developers, and it's time make a summary of developments and changes who have arrived since the first draft, which appeared 2 December, 2010.

The article is based on the fantastic analysis.

There are two significant changes in the selection of software packages available, and although I knew the news that these alternatives would make their appearance in Natty Narwhal sooner rather than later, we already have with us these two developments. It is Banshee and LibreOffice, replacing Rythmbox and OpenOffice.

Also in the Alpha 2 are the kernel 2.6.38-rc2, Server 1.10 and Table 7.10, GNOME 2.32, Nautilus 2.32.1, Firefox 4 Beta 10, Evolution 2.32.1 and the referred to LibreOffice 3.3.0 and Banshee 1.9.2.

Kernel Improvements
In reality that affects all new distributions that use the kernel 2.6.38, because this version has integrated the famous improvement that was the surprise in every way to know Linux means with only 200 lines of code could improve system performance is very relevant in certain scenarios.

The new kernel also comes with news on support for new hardware devices (over WiFi chipsets supported, such as sow), and also the new Server and Mesa offer support for Sandy Bridge ,well as improved support for dedicated graphics cards from AMD and Support more extensions to OpenGL.

The menu of the applications you have open, even if they are maximized and the entire screen- is hidden by default, And displayed according to perform certain actions :
  • When a window is maximized, shows the application title in the top panel and the menu is displayed if you hover above it.
  • When an application is not maximized but has focus, when you mouse over the title on the top panel of the title only shown to know which application the menu belongs we are seeing.
Unity Launcher/Places
Unity Launcher now has the support feature called Intellihide (Which is now enabled by default). If you have an application maximized and want to access Unity Launcher can press the Super key or click the Ubuntu logo in the upper left corner.

There are also some experimental options as the backlight always on, the Launch animation and animation urgent ,With two different visual effects to highlight these events and we see them well.

Besides feature File Locations (Places Files) and Applications is again back in Unity, but apparently is not fully functional in this version.

Ubuntu Software Center
Software Center wants become the central repository of this distribution when installing new software, and this has been moving forward in adding new features.

In this preliminary release of Natty Narwhal will have the possibility include our rating (With stars) and comment on some application, even if it means we must have Ubuntu account.

Other visual Improvements
Although less important, other important changes in visual and usability that will undoubtedly be very useful for many users. We describe.

In Unity we have a copy feature of AeroSnap of Windows 7 that can "dock" a window into one half of the screen by dragging it to one edge (left or right) on the desktop. The property of 'tiling' or 'tiles' can be really useful for movie screens and high resolution formats, such as 1.680×1.050 px.

Sound Menu in Ubuntu now supports playback of lists ,This small utility makes this one of the highlights once again the usability of the system.

In Ubuntu One also have visual changes, And as we mentioned a few days ago the "control panel" of this service in the cloud Canonical is refined over time, and now has a performance that emulates the normal applications with AppMenu (formerly Global Menu .)

GRUB2, in order to support Btrfs
One of the surprises we did not know is the inclusion of Btrfs support in GRUB2 ,This will allow us to partition the boot and normal that we can choose from the boot menu, fantastic for anyone who wants to experiment with this file system as promising.

However, the support is not quite right , where indicated to be investigated issues such as integration with the updated versions of Ubuntu, with the integration of snapshots and package dependencies, interface options and other options that still seem somewhat confusing.

Unity 2D (Qt)
Recently published a version of Unity for Qt/QML is supposed to be available as an option for those who can not run the normal Unity (with 3D support). However, Unity 2D is not available natively on the Ubuntu CD 11.04.

Instead Canonical will continue to build a classic based on GNOME desktop if your hardware can not support Unity. Things may change in future versions, so this could change in the final version.

Goodbye Ubuntu Netbook Edition
Canonical's announcement makes clear that Netbook Edition has disappeared to integrate with conventional publishing, although there are rare cases like the one shown in the ARM version that makes use of some specific components that differentiate it from the conventional version for x86 desktops.

In the concluding original notices of versions are still to come, And of course are planned under the roadmap that Canonical published long ago. This is the plan for the coming weeks:
  • 3 March, 2011: Alpha 3
  • 31 March, 2011: Beta
  • 21 April, 2011: Release Candidate
  • 28 April, 2011: Ubuntu 11.04 final.

Now what I played, of course, is to download the ISO image of Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal Alpha 2 if you are interested to try it in your PCs and laptops.

How to fix the bug "failed to get i915 symbols" on boot

I again have time among so many tasks of the test
failed to get i915 symbols, graphics turbo disabled
This post is a case of an error that I did to boot Ubuntu on my laptop Samsung R580. The laptop has an Nvidia graphics card 330m but for some reason Ubuntu will always load the modules on Intel, and of course ... to find an Intel graphics card can not find anything and jump to some error messages. The error messages are so we know what is wrong and to try to correct them.

To fix this problem we must add the module intel_ips to blacklist.
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Add this to the end of the file, save and restart:
blacklist intel_ips
With this you will no longer error plus

How to fix the time of the Ubuntu startup logo

I do not know if you have noticed that when Ubuntu 10.10 start, the screen is the most time in black, and then when we see the start screen, it takes nothing to load the OS. A defect at all important, but with a couple of lines of code can be corrected.

I tried it and went like a charm.
echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
sudo update-initramfs -u
I did the first time, I recommend update GRUB/BURG.
update-grub / update-burg
